SEATTLE - Police are searching for a man who led officers on a chase, crashed a car and ran away -- only hours after he got out of jail.
Emanuel Kozma, 24, was released from the King County Jail at 4:33 p.m. on Wednesday after he was booked the day before on drug charges.
King County Sheriff's detectives started tailing a car in White Center around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, believing that Kozman, a convicted felon, was inside, illegally in possession of a gun.
The car took off northward, into Seattle. As detectives chased it, somebody threw a handgun out the window, police said. Police have the weapon.
The car rolled at 17th and Trenton.
Neighbor Bob Killam heard the crash, came out and found a woman passenger standing on the sidewalk.
"She was talking to 911 and then she gave the phone to me, and I talked to 911 a little bit, and by that time the police were here, and police cars were comin' in like crazy," Killam said.
Killam said he then realized a manhunt was under way.
Police arrested the 22-year-old woman on suspicion of rendering criminal assistance.
Police think Kozma may have another gun. They said that anyone who sees him shouldn't approach him.
