George Gabriel was surrounded by family in Federal Way Saturday night.
He had just learned that Bernard Bellerouche, the man suspected of murdering his son, had been arrested hours earlier in the Tri-Cities.
“The news could not come at a better time for me, his mother and the rest of the family,” George Gabriel said.
George Gabriel Jr. was gunned down on his 22nd birthday. The Marine was on leave, driving home from a dinner with friends and his new bride, when he was shot in the parking lot outside his mother’s apartment.
The motive for murder remains a mystery.
“I can’t understand why he would do this to my son and what is the reason? I would like to know the reason,” said the victim’s father.
The killing just doesn’t make any sense to the family.
The victim didn’t know his suspected killer, and was simply trying to find a parking place when he was shot.
“I can’t recover from it up to now. Yesterday was his burial and I can’t get over leaving him there,” George Gabriel said.
Bellerouche is also a suspect in two other shootings this month, one that killed another man in Federal Way and one that hurt a third man in Des Moines.
