Fallen tree damages Tacoma apartment building

TACOMA, Wash. — A Tacoma resident was woken up early Monday morning after high winds knocked down a tree and landed on his apartment building.

Heavy rain and wind hit Western Washington Sunday evening into Monday.

Thousands of customers were left without power, and fallen trees were found throughout the area.

Steve Burton showed KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Rick Price the damage that was done by a tree to his East Tacoma apartment at 4 a.m.

“At 4 o’clock, my wife and I just heard, ‘Smash!’ And we both jumped up and I knew it hit the place,” said Burton.

Burton said there was also a tool shed in the backyard, but he doesn’t know what the tree did to it.

Both Burton and his wife were not hurt.

A tree also fell down on power lines in Tacoma early Monday morning near Interstate 5 at 58th Street and Montgomery. Many customers lost power.
