Everett fire chief cleared of wrongdoing

The Everett fire chief, under investigation for being intoxicated while on the job, was cleared Monday of any wrongdoing.

An investigation confirmed Chief Murray Gordon consumed on glass of wine before responding to a fatal apartment complex fire on New Year's Eve.

It also found no evidence that he was impaired at the time, despite accusations from another member of the department.

The city of Everett hired an independent firm for the investigation, which cost the city approximately $13,000.
