Enumclaw hydroplane racer flips during heat of Detroit race

DETROIT - A hydroplane racer flipped his vessel during a heat for a race Saturday in Detroit.

Ryan Mallow, an Enumclaw native, was in a U-100 Leland boat when he was trailing Steve David coming into a turn.

Mallow’s hydroplane flipped 360 degrees.

Mallow was injured and taken to a local hospital with no serious injuries.

In August, the hydroplanes will take over Lake Washington for Seafair.
