SEATTLE —

Police arrested a knife-wielding man Thursday morning at a sandwich shop.

The incident happened at a Subway in the 100 block of Fourth Avenue North before 9 a.m.

Police said a man walked into the shop and started throwing items around.

The clerk at the shop told the man to stop and he started destroying food items.

According to police, when the clerk called for security, the man brandished a knife and then thrust it at the clerk’s arm.

The knife hit the clerk’s arm, but did not cut him. He defended himself by punching the knife-wielding man.

Police said the man taunted the clerk to fight with him more, but the clerk ran from the store and waited for security to arrive.

When officers arrived, they found the man as he tried to leave the shop.

Police took the man into custody without incident and the clerk positively identified him. The man spoke about killing people while in custody, according to police.

Seattle police said officers recognized the man from a similar disturbance from earlier in the morning at a nearby McDonalds, but without a knife.
