PUYALLUP, Wash. - Puyallup police are searching for the driver of an SUV that struck a 16-year-old girl and then fled the scene.
Officers said the teenager was leaving the Golden Rule Grocery by a marked crosswalk at Seventh Street Northwest and West Stewart Avenue Northwest at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
She had just stepped into the crosswalk when a large white sport utility vehicle hit her.
Investigators believe it may have been a General Motors SUV such as a Tahoe or Suburban that has damage to the right front end and possibly a dent in the hood.
The injured girl was transported to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma. She is expected to survive.
Police said they plan to release surveillance video Friday morning.
