TACOMA, Wash. - A Tacoma home was damaged early Saturday morning after a driver in an SUV crashed into it, police said.
The incident happened in the 800 block of Sprague Street around 2:30 a.m.
According to police, a driver was traveling 60 mph when he plowed into a home.
Inside the house was Ratimir Glavicic, who not only heard the crash but felt it.
“I heard a tremendous explosion, like a bomb or something,” Glavicic said. “And I come out, and I saw just the house all demolished in front, and the SUV, just coming through the concrete, all the way under the porch.”
A neighbor told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Rick Price that he and his wife were woken up by the loud crash.
“We came over to the window and there was one fire truck and four or five police cars, and the Ford Explorer was in the lawn,” said Jayson Owens.
Police told Glavicic the driver had been seen drinking at a bar just a few blocks away. They said an officer asked the driver if he was OK, and he said a friend was going to pick him up.
“If he had called a taxi or something, it would be much better than what he did,” said Glavicic.
The driver was arrested and booked for driving under the influence.
