AUBURN, Wash. -
The driver of a school bus full of elementary students who crashed claimed the bus had mechanical problems, but the Washington State Patrol disagrees.
The bus loaded with children from Arthur Jacobsen Elementary School in Auburn crashed into a power pole Wednesday, knocking the pole and its wires onto the bus.
No one was seriously injured.
The driver, 53-year-old Athena Burk, told investigators the steering wheel stuck and that she couldn't avoid hitting the pole.
A state patrol investigation of the bus the following day showed no mechanical problems.
Burk was cited for negligent driving and received a ticket for $550.
She is now on paid leave from the school district.
