KENT, Wash. —

A man fled on foot after hitting a police vehicle and then a tree with a stolen van early Thursday morning, Kent police said.

The incident happened in a downtown Kent parking lot.

According to police, a man was seen fumbling with keys.

When an officer made contact with the man, he started his vehicle, drove backwards and struck a stopped police car.

The man then drove through bushes and landscape.

Police said the vehicle struck a tree and stopped.

The man got out and fled on foot.

Officers, a K9 unit and the King County Sheriff’s Office’s Guardian One helped in searching for the driver, but could not find him.

The officer was not hurt and his vehicle was not damaged.
