Driver injured after colliding into pole

PIERCE COUNTY, Wash. — An 18-year-old man was injured in a Pierce County crash early Sunday morning, said Washington State Patrol.

The collision happened before 1:30 a.m. on State Route 162 at Orville Road.

Troopers said the driver was traveling eastbound on SR 162 when he left the roadway and hit a pole.

Crews responded to the scene and airlifted the driver to Harborview Medical Center. His condition is unknown at this time.

According to State Patrol, the crash was not related to weather or road conditions, but the driver told troopers he fell asleep behind the wheel.
