Driver injured after chunk of granite smashes through windshield

A driver was injured Saturday morning after a chunk of granite struck his windshield on State Route 16 near Port Orchard.

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. — The incident happened at about 9 a.m. at Tremont Avenue at milepost 26.

According to troopers, a pickup truck was towing a trailer loaded with granite. When the trailer started to fishtail, it caused the truck and trailer to jackknife.

The trailer struck a barrier, which ejected a load of granite over the barrier into the oncoming lanes and struck the windshield of a 2013 Nissan Altima.

The driver of the Nissan was injured and taken to Harrison Medical Center to be treated for his non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
