Driver identified in Everett hit-and-run that paralyzed man

EVERETT, Wash. — Detectives with the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said they have identified the driver who hit a man at an Everett intersection and then left the scene.

Police said  22-year-old Scotty Becktell was seriously hurt when he was struck on Jan. 23 at the intersection of 128th Street and Eighth Avenue West.

"I've been paralyzed from belly button down and I'm going to need help for the rest of my life," Becktell said.

Police say a tip from the public helped detectives identify the type of vehicle the suspect was driving.

Detectives also pulled video from businesses in the area where the crash occurred, which provided them with a partial license plate number, leading them to locate the suspect vehicle and driver.

The driver, a 32 year-old man from Everett, is cooperating with the investigation.  Once the investigation is complete, charges will be referred to the prosecuting attorney.

The victim is still receiving medical treatment at Harborview Regional Medical Center.
