Driver hits child and flees scene

BURIEN — Authorities are looking for a hit-and-run suspect driving an older-model Honda sedan. The driver hit a 4-year-old boy in the area of Southwest 124th and Fourth Avenue Southwest in Burien. The vehicle was seen pulling over at first, but then the driver took off. The vehicle was last seen heading northbound toward Seattle.

Thursday night, the boy was in critical condition, but Friday his condition was upgraded to "serious."

A man living in the house right by the accident scene said the little boy was visiting his home with some family friends. He said the 4-year-old tried to follow his uncle and darted into the street as they exited the car. The man KIRO spoke with did not want to be identified, but said he was upstairs when the incident happened and ran downstairs to see the boy "his eyes closed, and he still breathing." The man at the house said no one in his family or the boy's family got a good look at the driver.

Others in the neighborhood said there was a big speeding problem around Fourth Avenue Southwest. "I know sometimes, especially toward nighttime, there are a lot of people just zooming right down here going 60-70 miles per hour," Shaw Sieber said.

The vehicle involved in the hit-and-run likely has front-end damage. If you have any information, you should call the King County Sheriff's Office.
