Diver injured after reported equipment malfunction

DES MOINES, Wash. - A man diving for geoducks was injured early Saturday morning after his equipment failed south of the Des Moines Marina, said officials with the South King Fire and Rescue.

 

Around 8:30 a.m., South King Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a diver who suffered an injury after equipment failure about a half a mile south of the marina.

 

Officials said the diver was in 25 to 30 feet of water, and had to ascend rapidly due to malfunctioning equipment.

 

When crews arrived, the diver was unconscious and CPR was performed on him.

 

The diver was taken to Harborview Medical Center with serious or possibly life-threatening injuries.
