LYNNWOOD, Wash. - Police are searching for a driver who ran away after police used a spike strip to blow out the tires of a fleeing car.
Police said the chase began when a sheriff's deputy tried to pull over the driver of a 2000 Honda Civic for reckless driving near Highway 99 and Airport Road in Everett. The driver wouldn't stop, and sped up while going southbound on Highway 99, reaching speeds of up to 80 mph.
Video from Chopper 7 showed police with a dog searching the area near 196th and Highway 99, near the Hobby Lobby store at 19310 60th Avenue West in Lynnwood.
Photos from KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Lee Stoll, who is at the scene, show the fleeing car's tires blown out.
A witness told Stoll that the car's right-side tires ran over spike strips laid by police to stop the car.
The witness said the car pulled into the parking lot and a young male driver took off, running.
Stoll said police have closed several blocks to try to contain the driver and have been going through yards in the neighborhood.
