Ex-Lakewood cop sentenced for 'egregious offense' of stealing from officers' fund

TACOMA, Wash. — A judge has sentenced former Lakewood police officer Skeeter Manos to 2 years 9 months in prison for stealing money donated to the Fallen Officers Fund.

The judge, saying it was "an egregious offense," ordered Manos to pay $159,000 in restitution to the fund that was established following the shooting deaths of four Lakewood police officers in 2009.

Prosecutors said Manos took the money while working as the treasurer of the Lakewood Police Independent Guild and allegedly siphoned off more than $150,000 into a private account.

He was fired by the Lakewood Police Department in February.

People donated to the fund after Sgt. Mark Renninger and officers Tina Griswold, Ronald Owens and Greg Richards were killed Nov. 29, 2009 in a Parkland coffee shop.
