3-year-old boy beaten blind for potty training problems

SEATTLE — An Enumclaw woman  is jailed, charged with second-degree assault of a child after a 3-year-old boy she was taking care of was shaken so severely over potty training issues that he partially lost his sight.

Prosecutors said 25-year-old Chasity Renee DuFour beat, shook and choked the boy, giving him significant brain damage, and coached her own 5-year-old child to lie to investigators.

DuFour is the girlfriend of the victim's father, and watches the child while the man is at work.

King County Senior Deputy Prosecutor Cecelia Gregory said the boy was covered in bruises, partially blinded, and will have lasting neurological and physical difficulties after the ongoing attacks by DuFour.

According to prosecutors, DuFour was seen striking the boy after he wet his pants.

DuFour is being held on $250,000 bail.

She was charged Friday.
