Crews rescue man who went over embankment in Carbonado

CARBONADO, Wash. - A man was rescued after he went over an embankment Thursday afternoon in Carbonado, according to the Washington State Patrol.

 

Just after 4 p.m., East Pierce firefighters were dispatched after reports came in of a car that went over an embankment on State Route 165 at the Fairfax Bridge.

 

The people that called in were off-duty law enforcement officers.

 

When crews arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle about 20 feet below the bridge that resting on trees.

 

East Pierce Fire and Rescue believe the driver was trying to turn around on the two-lane road, and then went over the embankment.

 

The man got out of the vehicle, but fell 100-150 feet below the ravine.

 

According to Washington State Patrol, the incident happened around 1 p.m.

 

After the man was rescued, he was airlifted to a nearby hospital. He had broken bones, and he currently has serious injuries

 

Chopper 7 flew over the scene.

 

Washington State Patrol is still investigating the incident.
