Crews control fire at Covington business

COVINGTON, Wash. — Investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire at a Covington business Sunday.

The fire happened in the 27500 block of Covington Way Southeast at a business that specializes in both organic and inorganic material for the production of horticultural industry plants.

Authorities said, a person reported a possible structure fire around 1:45 a.m. at the location, but could not get closer because the property was fenced and gated.

When crews from the Kent and Maple Valley fire departments arrived, they found a large metal canopy with a fire burning under it. Moss and possibly other materials were under the canopy.

Firefighters controlled the fire and kept it from spreading to nearby machinery and other packaged organic materials.

No one from the business was at the site during the time of the fire.

There were no injuries reported.

The fire is under investigation, but does not appear be suspicious.
