Child rapist arrested for allegedly raping 6-year-old girl

A Seattle man already convicted once of child rape is now suspected of raping another child.

Forty-two year old Jeffrey Johannes Evenson is a Level III sex offender. He was arrested on Tuesday, and booked into the King County Jail.

According to documents filed by the Seattle Police Department, in the recent case, Evenson allegedly raped a little girl, who was just 6 at the time.

Her father recently notified police when the girl, now 9, opened up to a family friend about the alleged crimes. According to the documents, Evenson and the alleged victim's now-dead mother lived together from 2008 to 2010. Investigators believe the girl's mother, identified in police documents as "A.G." forced the girl, identified as "G.E.", to watch pornographic movies and be in bed with her and Evenson when they had sex. The police report said the girl's mother also allowed Jeff Evenson to fondle her.

Evenson was convicted in 1990 of child rape and was in prison until 1994. He was also convicted, in 1998, of child molestation. He was in prison for that crime until March of 2006. Evenson was also convicted twice for failing to register as a sex offender. The Department of Corrections tells KIRO 7 that Evenson was on Community Supervision until January of 2008.

Today at Evenson's bail hearing, deputy prosecuting attorney Steven Kim asked for bail to be set at $1 million because "the state is very concerned about this predatory behavior and the grooming involved."

King County pro tem Judge Kara Murphy set it at $500,000.

But even if he makes bail, a conviction on these latest allegations could put Evenson behind bars for the rest of his life, because of our state's "two strikes you're out" law for sex convictions.

Today, KIRO 7 reporter Amy Clancy asked DOC spokesperson Norah West whether Evenson was ever considered for our state's Civil Commitment Center for Sexually Violent Predators on McNeil Island.

“In 2005, Evenson was deemed ineligible for civil commitment because his forensic psychological exam results indicated he did not meet the criteria of a sexually violent predator," West said.
