NEWPORT, Ore. - Crews recovered the body of a 6-year-old boy after his mother reported that she threw him off the Yaquina Bay Bridge in Newport on the Oregon coast.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Jonathan Klingenberg says the Coast Guard dispatched two boats and a helicopter to search the water after getting a call for help about 6:30 p.m. Monday from Newport fire and police officials.
The woman's 911 call reportedly came in about 6 p.m. Monday.
Newport Police Chief Mark Miranda says his detectives interviewed the mother, named as 34-year-old Jillian McCabe, and have arrested her for aggravated murder.
