Coast Guard responds to fuel spill in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES, Wash. — The state Ecology Department said 840 gallons of heavy fuel spilled when a fuel barge overflowed as it was being filled at a terminal in Port Angeles.

The department said the spill is contained in a containment boom that was deployed during the fueling operation.

The Coast Guard and marine spill cleanup crews have responded to the spill. It was reported at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday at the Tesoro Port Angeles Terminal where the barge owned by Harley Marine Services was being filled.

The Coast Guard said a 25-foot response boat crew from Station Port Angeles is at the scene to maintain a safety zone around the barge and crews from Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound are en route.
