Climber rescued near Merchant Peak

INDEX, Wash. — A 67-year-old climber was rescued in Index Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

At about 11 a.m., police received a 911 call from an experienced climber who was unable to climb down from his position at about 5,000 feet.

A search and rescue team from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area and rescued the climber from a ledge near Merchant Peak.

SnoHAWK, the Sheriff’s Office’s helicopter, helped in finding and rescuing the climber.
