Child porn suspect arrested after calling police on KIRO 7

SEATTLE — A Seattle man was arrested on child pornography charges twice in just one week --  once because KIRO 7 got involed.

Jesus Chacon, who works for accounting firm PWC, and lives on Capitol Hill, was arrested at his apartment complex Thursday night.  A week earlier, Seattle police searched the same apartment and found hundreds of sexually explicit pictures and videos of children as young as 3 years old.

Bail was set last week at $75,000, despite detectives writing in their reports that they hoped Chacon would stay in jail because they felt he was likely to harm a child.  During their investigation, officers said Chacon was “deceptive” on a polygraph exam when they asked him if he ever had sexual contact with a child.  He was also investigated for rape in Texas, but no charges were ever filed.

A spokesman for the King County Prosecutor’s Office said without any convictions in Chacon’s past, they really couldn’t ask for a higher bail amount.  The spokesman said $75,000 was a high amount for a child pornography case where the suspect had no criminal history.  KIRO 7’s research into other recent child porn cases backed up this claim.

Chacon made bail on last week’s arrest.

When KIRO 7 went to get Chacon’s side of the story by knocking on his door, Chacon called the police.  The police showed up and arrested him because he had a warrant for more outstanding child porn accusations.

Court documents show both arrests might be tied to the same case.  On Friday, a judge will determine Chacon’s new bail amount.
