Child car seat causes fuel spill in south Tacoma

The fuel spill occurred on southbound I-5 near 54th in south Tacoma.

TACOMA, Wash. — A child car seat caused an overnight fuel spill on Interstate 5 in south Tacoma.

A Safeway semi-truck hit a child safety seat that was in the middle of southbound I-5 at 56th at about 2 a.m.

The seat punctured one of the semi's gas tanks and 60 to 80 gallons of diesel fuel and oil leaked onto the road.

Crews are cleaning up the spill on the roadside.
