Charges filed against man who opened fire at neighbors, property

TACOMA, Wash. — Charges were filed against a man who fired shots at his neighbors and their home Tuesday near northeast Tacoma.

Michael E. McBee, 65, was charged Wednesday with attempted murder, assault, burglary and malicious mischief while unlawfully armed with a firearm.

"The defendant terrorized a neighborhood," said Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist. "We will prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law. We're lucky, and grateful, nobody was killed."

Prosecutors said around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, McBee opened fire at his neighbors and property in the 5800 block of 13th Street Court.

Around 4 p.m., Pierce County deputies responded to the home in the 5800 block of 13th Street Court Northeast, in the Fife Heights neighborhood.

No one was hurt.

McBee returned to his home and barricaded himself inside.

A SWAT team was called in, and after a nearly five-hour standoff, McBee surrendered to police.

According to neighbors, McBee has been involved in multiple neighborhood disputes.

McBee was arraigned and pleaded not guilty. His bail was set at $5 million and his next court appearance is set for April 12.
