Central Seattle residents to meet as city considers expanding restricted parking zone

SEATTLE — People who live in Central Seattle will sound off about drivers who park on their streets but don't live in their neighborhood as the city considers expanding restricted parking zones there.

The neighbors say commuters from other places use their streets like they're a park and ride.

The proposal to add more restricted parking includes everything south of 19th Avenue near Pine Street.

The Seattle Department of Transportation is looking at including about a dozen more streets in Seattle's Central area in Zone 2.

The restrictions would prevent people from taking spots away from residents, who say parking is already difficult to find.

“They kind of see people come, park their car during the day -- commuters mostly -- and then take the bus and walk to their final place of employment,” Mike Archambault of the Capitol Hill Community Council said.

Neighbors say that commuters are essentially turning the area around Capitol Hill into a park and ride.

SDOT is holding a meeting on the proposal to expand the restricted parking zone at the Bullitt Center, 1501 E Madison Street, Discovery Commons, on Tuesday from 6:30 p.m.to 8:30 p.m.
