Car slams into Blaine school bus full of children

WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. - Police say a car slammed into the side of a bus full of children from the Blaine School District Thursday morning.

Washington State Trooper Mark Francis said a car hit the bus at State Route 548 and Alderson Road in Whatcom County.

There were 42 middle and high school students on board the bus when it was hit at 7:45 a.m.

No one on the bus was injured, but the driver and passenger in the car were badly hurt, the Bellingham Herald reported.

The intersection is closed while troopers investigate but is expected to reopen in the afternoon.

Francis said drugs may have been a factor in the crash.
