SEATTLE, Wash. —

Following the fire that almost burned down well-known gay nightclub Neighbours as people counted down New Year ’s Eve, Capitol Hill bars were on high alert this weekend.

Bartender Michelle Hash works at Wild Rose, two blocks away from Neighbours.

“We’re primarily a lesbian bar but we are open to anybody,” said Hash.

Hash said her bar already has strict security measures with two or three people checking bags and coat pockets at the door.  However, she said everyone is being even more observant since some unknown person poured gas on the stairs in Neighbours to start the fire.

“You watch and you feel, and you pay attention, and that’s what you have to do is pay attention,” Hash said.

It was a similar story at Sam’s Tavern across the street from Wild Rose and many of the other bars KIRO 7 went to Saturday night.
