Burglar creeps through business, passing up computers for art objects

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Police in Olympia are searching for a burglar targeting art and jewelry in an unusual place.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest of the man whose behavior is considered bizarre.

The burglar who broke into the Copper Moon Massage Therapy offices in Olympia is seen on surveillance video turning off the lights, moving slowly through the building and taking jewelry that is sold in the lobby.

“My pieces, especially the ones I put on the bust, are very unique. They are one of a kind,” said victim Margie Erickson.

The burglar is seen in the video going through files in the office. When he later comes to a locked door, he turns around, kicks it open and takes a valuable statue inside.

“There was one of a goddess, which was ironically enough, the goddess of protection,” said Geiger.

There are now bare spots on the wall throughout the business where the burglar took nearly a dozen pieces of hanging art, but he seemed to have no interest in the office computers or electronics.

“It’s extremely bizarre,” said Geiger. “He didn’t quite look all there.”

There are a number of unsolved art thefts in Olympia, but police have no evidence that the latest burglary is connected to previous crimes.
