President Trump confirms via Tweet summit with North Korea

After it was confirmed that CIA Director Mike Pompeo secretly met with North Korean Leader Kim Jong-un, President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. and North Korea will sit down at a summit to hammer out a plan for denuclearization.

Trump made the announcement via Twitter Wednesday morning.

Trump said that the meeting is still "being worked out" and no exact date has been released. It is expected that Trump and the North Korean leader will meet in late May or early June, CNN reported.

Pompeo is Trump's nominee for Secretary of State and conducted the meeting with no State Department or White House officials attending. Only intelligence officials made the trip with Pompeo, CNN reported.

The meeting happened over the Easter weekend, The Washington Post reported.

Trump spoke of the meeting between Kim and Pompeo Tuesday from Mar-a-Largo, where he is meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Trump mentioned that the United States had talks with North Korea "at very high levels," but didn't go into detail about who met or what was discussed, the Washington Post reported.

Pompeo's meeting was the first high-level meeting with Pyongyang since 2000 when then-Secretary of State Madeline Albright met with Kim Jong Il, the Washington Post reported.
