Breaking: Water main break closes intersection, floods home
MONROE, Wash. —

Two schools in the Monroe area, Salem Woods and Chain Lake elementary schools, are closed for the day because of an early morning water main break.

About 75 homes and the two schools were without water.

The 12-inch water main broke about 3:30 a.m. near Ingraham Road and Brown Road in Monroe Tuesday, shutting down that intersection and sending thousands of gallons of water into streets and a home. The homeowner, Scott Johnson, told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that the water damaged items in his garage and flooded his crawlspace.

"The water was pouring out of the vents on both sides and just flooding the entire yard," said Johnson.

The main has since been repaired and water was restored to the homes and schools before noon.

The schools will be open as usual on Wednesday.
