BREMERTON, Wash. - Bremerton police arrested Joseph Ayers, 36, on Wednesday. Ayers is accused of attacking another man who admitted to having sex with Ayers's 15-year-old daughter.
Ayers went out Tuesday night with a 22-year-old man, the fiance of his family's babysitter. Upon returning home, the younger man, who was drunk, admitted to the Ayers that he had been having an ongoing sexual relationship with his daughter.
According to police, the admission angered Ayers. He retrieved a rifle but decided not to shoot the younger man and instead hit him with the weapon.
The 22-year-old ran as Ayers chased him down the street repeatedly hitting him with the rifle until it broke, police said.
Ayers was later arrested and booked into the Kitsap County Jail. He was charged with assault.
The 22-year-old man who allegedly confessed to the affair is also in trouble with the law. He was arrested Wednesday afternoon and could face charges of child rape.
