Body found in burned-out vehicle in Capitol State Forest

OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Thurston County Sheriff's Office is investigating the discovery of a body found inside a burned-out SUV in the Capitol State Forest.

A Department of Natural Resources worker spotted the vehicle on fire on E-Line Road around 9 a.m., said KIRO 7 Eyewitness News South Sound Bureau Chief Richard Thompson.

Firefighters put out fire, and found the body.

The sheriff told Thompson that the body is that of a man, and that he was in the driver's seat of a Ford Bronco.

The sheriff said everything is badly burned, so it's difficult to tell what happened.

Investigators haven't yet found the vehicle's registered owner.

Chopper 7 video showed investigators examining the scorched vehicle in the forest outside of Olympia.

Crime scene tape was up around the vehicle, and numerous sheriff's office vehicles were parked nearby.
