Bellingham Kayak maker's business goes up in flames

BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Fire has destroyed a Bellingham kayak builder's shop.

The owner of Sterling Kayak told the Bellingham Herald the building on Kline Road was fully engulfed in flames Wednesday afternoon.

Sterling Donaldson said he was the only person in the shop when the fire erupted, and he was left to watch as decades of his work went up in flames.

By the time Chopper 7 arrived, video showed the building had collapsed in on itself.  It appeared to be a total loss, with brightly colored kayaks outside. Flames were still visible at 2:45 p.m.
