The boys were found in Mexico’s Sinaloa state and were reunited with their father, who has legal custody. The family returned to Washington Friday evening.

Sage and Isaac were in California to have a supervised visit with their biological mother, 41-year-old Faye Ku. Authorities said the boys were last seen at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The FBI worked with local, state, federal and international partners to locate the boys.

Authorities accompanied KU to LAX, where she was taken into federal custody.

According to legal documents, Ku attempted to leave the country with Sage and Isaac once before on June 12, 2013.

The boys’ father, David Cook, released the following statement regarding their safe return:

"For us personally, Helen and I are overjoyed to have Sage and Isaac back at home. The boys are healthy, but have been through a difficult experience. They have begun to make contact with their friends, and we are confident that in time they will heal.

We are eternally grateful to the FBI both here in Seattle and in Mexico for their tireless work in bringing this case to a successful conclusion. We are also very thankful to the Bellevue police department and the Los Angeles County sheriff's department for their role in the initial investigation.

Finally, we would like to thank our families, friends, coworkers, and the thousands of well-wishers on our Facebook page. They kept our spirits up, offered help and hope, and always let us know that Sage and Isaac were not forgotten. …"
