Bear spotted near school in Gig Harbor

GIG HARBOR, Wash. — Gig Harbor police searched a wooded area near a school on Monday after a woman reported seeing a bear in the area, the Tacoma News Tribune reported.

The TNT said the bear was spotted around noon in an open field at Discovery Elementary School.

TNT photos showed Officer Joe Hicks searching the area, carrying a shotgun for protection in case he found the bear.
