Armed man enters store, threatens workers at gunpoint

SPANAWAY, Wash. — Just after 3 a.m. Monday an armed man wearing a ski mask entered the Safeway store in the 15800 block of Pacific Avenue South in Spanaway.

The masked gunman entered through a truck dock while a delivery was being made. He cocked his gun and pointed it at the truck driver as well as an assistant store manager.

He then walked around the store for about five minutes. The assistant manager announced to everyone over the intercom that there was a gunman in the store.

Eventually the man left the store and fled in a silver Nissan sedan. The gunman is still at large. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

The store was closed at the time and there were no customers inside.

The gunman is described as a black male, 6 feet 2 inches tall. He was wearing a royal blue shirt and a black ski mask.
