ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Taylor Bridge fire has affected many people in the farm communities, but the other victims have been the animals.

The Kittitas Fairgrounds is offering as a temporary home for animals.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Deborah Horne spoke with Elaine Wise who owns pigs in the barn.

“My home, everything I own is completely gone,” Wise said. “So I have nothing left except these pigs here, and myself.”

The pigs Wise owns gave birth to 12 piglets Thursday, and she considers her pigs as family.

Wise told KIRO 7 her home took nearly 20 years to build and the fire destroyed it.

“Vehicles, my home, there’s nothing left but rubble, burned rubble.” Wise said.

Other owners are relying on the refuge as well, and volunteers are helping out.

“It’s been a real good community effort. Everybody’s pulled together and really kind of overcome everything,” said volunteer Ryan Creech.

Wise is now looking for a new home and does not know how many pigs she lost.

“I’m sad. It’s an ongoing nightmare,” Wise said. “And it’s going to be a long time before I can adjust.”
