Amazon.com, the website for the world’s largest online retailer, was down shortly after noon Monday.
“We’re very sorry, but we’re having trouble doing what you just asked us to do,” a website message said. “Please give us another chance.”
It was not immediately clear what caused the site to go down, and an Amazon spokesperson did not return a call from KIRO 7. The company headquarters is in Seattle.
Online news site GeekWire reported Amazon lost $4.8 million by being down 40 minutes.
The outage happened two weeks after it was announced Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was buying The Washington Post and other newspapers for $250 million. Click here to read more about Bezos buying The Washington Post.
