Agencies evaluate boat believed to be tsunami debris

Updated:

LONG BEACH -  Local, state and federal agencies are evaluating a 20-foot boat that washed ashore Friday in Pacific County, said officials with the state Department of Ecology.

The vessel washed ashore on the Long Beach Peninsula.

Officials are checking to see if the boat was swept into the Pacific Ocean during the tsunami that hit Japan in March 2011.

Agencies are inspecting the boat for potential aquatic invasive species, and there were no oil or hazardous materials associated with the boat.

The state Parks and Recreation Commission asks that the public stay clear of the boat so that the Department of Fish and Wildlife can evaluate the vessel.
