SNOHOMISH COUNTY, Wash. - Snohomish County Sheriff's deputies pulled an 8-year-old boy from Lake Roesiger Sunday afternoon after he had been underwater for 45 minutes.
The Auburn boy died late Sunday afternoon.
The boy was at a family gathering. He had jumped off a dock at a waterfront home and was swimming toward an inflatable floating island offshore.
Sheriff's Lieutenant Rodney Rochon said the boy seemed to struggle as he tried to get up on the island and then he disappeared under the surface. Two adults immediately jumped in to search for the boy. Other adults dialed 9-1-1. Divers found the boy in 27 feet of water.
They immediately started CPR, and continued to try to resuscitate the child as they rushed him to an Everett Hospital. The boy was described as an "above average" swimmer who had gone to the island before.
No one seems to know why the child got into trouble doing the same thing Sunday.
