6 displaced by fire at Seatac apartment building

SEATAC, Wash. — Two families were displaced after a fire damaged a Seatac apartment building.

Residents of an apartment building in the 3200 block of South 176th Street were awakened Monday morning by the smell of smoke.

A resident noticed the smell, a light haze in the room and charring around an electrical outlet and called maintenance, who then called 911 at 6:15 a.m.

The first arriving fire crew reported that it appeared there was a possible fire in the wall of the first floor unit and began to open up the wall where they found charring and burnt wiring. Firefighters continued to punch through walls to determine the extent of the fire and to make sure the fire was out.

The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical problem and was ruled accidental by the Kent fire investigator.

Six people were displaced from their two apartments by the fire.  One family is staying with friends and the other is being provided a temporary apartment in the same complex while the damaged apartment undergoes repair.

No one was hurt.
