44 pounds of marijuana seized, 2 arrested during traffic stop

Two Seattle residents were arrested Friday night after about 44 pounds of marijuana were seized during a routine traffic stop in Oregon, police said.

MEDFORD, Ore. — A trooper stopped a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta on Interstate 5 north of Medford at milepost 31 for a speed violation just before 9:30 p.m.

According to the Oregon State Police, the trooper found three large garbage bags containing individually sealed packages of pot, which was about 44 pounds and had an estimated value of $88,000.

The driver, 39-year-old Jessie Olivia Tear, and the passenger, 44-year-old Patrick James Haenelt III, were arrested and taken to the Jackson County Jail for unlawful possession and distribution of a controlled substance.
