3 serious crashes occur on Highway 2 within a week

A semi-truck and a car crashed on Highway 2 Tuesday morning, making it the third serious crash on the Snohomish County road in less than a week.

On Thursday, 24-year-old Sean Vessey from Everett was killed when he crashed the stolen car he was driving near Snohomish, WSP troopers said.   He crossed the center line, hitting a pickup truck head-on.   A father and son in the pickup were injured.

On Friday, 65-year-old Wayne McKenzie from Wenatchee was killed in a three-car head-on crash near Eagle Falls Creek.

In Tuesday’s crash, state troopers said the driver of a dump truck southbound on Fern Bluff Road did not yield the right of way while turning left onto Highway 2.  One person was airlifted to Harborview and two others were transported to a Monroe hospital.

Both directions of Highway 2 were closed between Monroe and Sultan until about 11:45 a.m.

KIRO 7's partners at the Daily Herald report there have been 60 deady crashes on Highway 2 since 1999.
