Woman's death marks first flu-related fatality for Thurston County

THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. — A 23-year-old Thurston County woman died from complications related to the flu, according to a news release from Thurston County.

The death was first reported Wednesday night.

The woman's death marks the first flu-related fatality in Thurston County this flu season.

A total of 28 people in Washington have died this season as a result of the flu, according to the Department of Health.

"This young woman's death is a sad reminder that the flu must be taken seriously," stated Dr. Diana Yu, health officer for the county, in the release.
