Man struck by car during fight with girlfriend

SILVERDALE, Wash. — A 19-year-old man is in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center after he got out of a car during a fight with his girlfriend was struck by a passing vehicle.

According to deputies, the accident happened on Silverdale Way Northwest near Grandpeak Lane Northwest around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Investigators said the 19-year-old was driving when he began to have a verbal argument with his 18-year-old girlfriend.

For unknown reasons, he stopped the vehicle in the middle of the roadway and got out, leaving his girlfriend in the passenger seat.

He was struck immediately by a passing vehicle. Deputies estimate the speed of the vehicle at 45 miles per hour at the time of the crash.

The man landed on the hood of the passing vehicle and was then thrown about 20 feet.

He sustained several injuries but he is expected to survive.

Deputies do not suspect alcohol in the crash. The driver of the passing vehicle, a woman in her 50s, was not cited.  The crash remains under investigation.
