17-year-old girl killed in Olympia-area crash

OLYMPIA, Wash. — A 17-year-old girl was killed when her car was nearly ripped in half in a crash in the Olympia area Monday morning.

The victim, Amanda Winters, was heading to Capitol High School when her car left the road and struck a tree stump in the 10500 block of Summit Lake Road.

Her father, who was behind her in another vehicle, was the first person at the scene.

Medics pronounced Winters dead at the scene.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Guy Gill said speed was a factor in the crash.

Winters was the only occupant in the car and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
