• 16-year-old in custody for fatal stabbing

    RENTON, Wash. - A 16-year-old boy is in police custody following a fatal stabbing in Renton early Saturday morning.

    Police responded to a reports of a fight in the 200 block of Southwest Fifth Place at about 1:15 a.m., where they found a 22-year-old man with two stab wounds to his stomach. 

    Witnesses on scene told officers that the 22-year-old victim and his brothers had tried to confront the teen who had attempted to get into their parked car.

    Officers were told a fight broke out between the teen and the brothers when the stabbing occurred.

    The stabbing victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center where he died during surgery. The 16-year-old and his friend were arrested at the scene.  

    It is unknown why the teen was attempting to get into the vehicle at this time. Police recovered the weapon used in the stabbing.

    The family of the 22-year-old man told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News that they are organizing a vigil for him on Saturday night.
